Obituary for Marion Green
Marion Kathleen Green sadly passed away after a short illness on 1st March 2026 aged 66. Marion was born on 4th June 1959, the eldest of three children to parents Gabriel and Mary Lavarello.
After she left school Marion got a job working in the Island Store until she retired at the age of 65. She enjoyed working in there and having laughs with her colleagues and the customers, she was never short of a joke or two. Marion also worked part-time at the Fishing Factory and helped out at the Prince Philip Hall bar.
On 30th January 1980 Marion married Albert Green and they had two children together.
Marion was hard working and always enjoyed spending time outdoors she would either be working in the Potato Patches, milking the cow or camping with her children. She made many trips to the Caves, Stony Beach, Sandy Point and apple picking at Half-Way-Beach. She was never one to say no to a boat trip even being pregnant didn’t deter her. Marion travelled to Nightingale many times with her husband Albert on fatting trips and even helped the men sail the longboats. Marion liked to knit and loved to dance she could always be found on the dance floor. She enjoyed helping out family with child care and was like a second mum to some of them and earned the nickname “Meddie”.
She is survived by her husband Albert, children Patrick and Lynette, grandchildren Leah-Faye and Oscar, brother John and Sister Beverly. Marion’s kindness, caring nature and humor are deeply missed not just by her family but by many of the community.
