Tristan da Cunha Obituaries

Darren Matthew Brian Repetto passed away on 6th September 2025 at the age of 56 years. Darren was born on 14th May 1969 to Bernard and Joan Repetto and was the third youngest of four children. Raised on Tristan da Cunha, he grew up surrounded by family, friends, and the island life that he loved so dearly.

On 1st June 1995, Darren married the love of his life, Miranda Hagan, at St. Mary;s Church. Together they built a loving family and were blessed with two sons, Dean and Randall, who brought immense pride and joy to Darren throughout his life. Darren was also a devoted and loving grandfather who deeply loved and cherished his granddaughter, Hope, who brought him endless happiness and many treasured moments.

After leaving school at the age of 15, Darren went straight to work at the fishing factory for Tristan Investments in 1984, later continuing his career with Ovenstone. His main role at the factory was in electrical and refrigeration work, where he became highly respected for his knowledge, dedication, and skill. On fishing days, he was entrusted with operating the patrol boat, Sea Spray, a responsibility he carried out with great pride.

Later, Darren followed his true passion and became a full-time fisherman. He dedicated 38 years of service to the fishing factory before continuing his employment with the Tristan Government, where he remained until his passing. His work was more than a job to him—it was a way of life. Darren was hardworking, dependable, and deeply committed to every role he undertook.

Darren was also a dedicated volunteer firefighter who proudly served his community for many years. In recognition of his commitment and service, he was awarded a medal for his dedication. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and took great pride in serving the people of Tristan da Cunha.

His love for the sea was unmatched. Darren thoroughly enjoyed travelling aboard the longboat Britannia, affectionately known as "Tannie", on trips to Nightingale Island. Some of his happiest times were spent with friends exploring the caves, visiting Stony Beach and Sandy Point, and taking part in beef slaughtering trips. These outings created many memories and stories that he would fondly share.

Anyone who knew Darren knew of his incredible passion for the ocean. Fishing was not simply a hobby—it was part of who he was. He could spend hours sharing stories of life at sea, discussing fishing, weather, boats, and the experiences he had gained throughout his years on the water. His knowledge and love of the ocean were second to none.

Darren will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour. He was always ready with a joke, a laugh, or a story to brighten someone;s day. He enjoyed social gatherings, loved a good party, and was never shy of the dance floor. His infectious smile, cheerful nature, and warm personality touched the lives of many and left lasting memories with all who knew him.

Darren will be remembered as a devoted husband, son, brother, loving father and grandfather, hardworking dedicated community member, loyal friend, proud Tristanian, and passionate fisherman. His kindness, humour, dedication, and love for life will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created, the lessons he shared, and the love he gave will remain forever.
