Break Up Day

Break Up Day on the 20th December is always a day of partying, as departments let their hair down before the Christmas and New Year break. This year though, there was also serious moment when the island was asked to help with a maritime emergency. The SAR team brought ashore an injured sailor from a passing bulk carrier for treatment in the hospital. He was treated promptly and is recovering well.

Expat's Christmas Dinner

While all the island families gather for their Christmas dinners - traditionally featuring stuffed roast mutton - the expatriate staff from the hospital, school, and factory, etc, meet for their own festive meal. This year their dinner was hosted at the Residency by Administrator Philip Kendall and his wife Louise.
