2026 Anniversary Day marked with King's Message

On 14th August 1816 a garrison aboard HMS Falmouth took possession of Tristan da Cunha on behalf of King George III: and from that day forward for 210 years the island has been British.

A much-welcomed message from His Majesty King Charles III was sent to the Chief Islander Ian Lavarello and then shared among the community. It is reproduced below:

This year’s Anniversary Day landed on a Friday, giving everyone a well-deserved long weekend, though coming in the middle of winter, the weather is always unpredictable. Other than the well-received message from His Majesty the King, Anniversary Day is a quiet affair, with people spending time with family and friends, dodging the frequent rain showers and keeping warm.
