Report and photos of the visit of the Silversea cruise ship Silver Explorer to the Tristan Islands on 15th-16th March 2016

Silversea Cruises ship Silver Explorer visited Tristan on 15th March and continued for a visit to Nightingale Island the following day.

Report from Dawn Repetto and photos from Shirley Squibb.

The Silver Explorer arrived early morning on the 15th March. Sea conditions were good but weather was a bit rainy, this however did not deter visitors and they all arrived ashore ready for a tour around the Village, Potato Patches and the Hillpiece. Due to the rainy weather the new bus came in handy and visitors were driven to the Patches and around the Village when rain was at its hardest.

The ship has been having problems with their Internet so visitors were happy to use the Internet Cafe to contact home.

As well as enjoying the wet outdoors, visitors did some shopping, wrote postcards home and enjoyed coffee and snacks at Cafe da Cunha. They even made time to pop to the Albatross Bar for a cold beer.

Visitors departed the harbour at 6pm along with local guides to visit Nightingale Island on 16th March, but a landing was not possible on Inaccessible as rthe island again lived up to its name!
