Report and Photo from Kelly Green

The cruise ship MV Silver Explorer visited Tristan on the 22nd March 2022. This was the second cruise ship visit of 2022. Unfortunately again no one was able to land in the settlement because of Covid restrictions, but passengers did enjoy zodiac tours at Gough and Nightingale islands. We hear they had a wonderful time and saw an abundant amount of wildlife.

Before continuing on her way to Cape Town, a RIB went off to the ship so that passengers' passports could be endorsed with the sought-after Tristan da Cunha immigration stamp.

The Silver Explorer last visited Tristan in 2016 in more normal times (which we hope will resume in 2023). Under her former name of MV Prince Albert II, the ship assisted in the rescue of crew from bulk carrier MV Oliva, which ran aground on Nightingale Island in 2011, causing an environmental disaster. See our MS Oliva Shipwreck page.
