200th Anniversary plaques presented to Association officers

Tristan Administrator Alex Mitham presents plaques of gratitude from the Tristan community to Tristan Association officers on 25th May 2016 to mark the occasion of the community's celebration of 200 years of UK rule 1816-2016.
Alex first visited the Association's President and Chairman Michael Swales at his Staffordshire home to present him with a plaque recognising over 60 years tireless support to the Tristan da Cunha community. Alex then continued to the Norfolk home of Association Secretary Jim Kerr to present him with a plaque recognising his decades of work for the Tristan community, principally in the field of education.

Michael's plaque inscription reads:

In recognition of over 60 years of dedication to Tristan da Cunha. From your scientific endeavours, to the creation of the Tristan da Cunha Association, the Denstone College link and charitable donations – your support has been astonishing and every islander owes you a debt of gratitude. Though many miles away, you are firmly in every Tristanians heart. Our faith is our strength, and your faith in Tristan will make us forever stronger. Thank you.

Jim's plaque inscription reads:

In recognition of your decades of service to Tristan da Cunha. The whole community would like to pass on their sincerest gratitude for your tireless work with St Mary's School, the Tristan da Cunha Association and as UK Adviser. You have been instrumental in improving educational standards and have been taken to the heart of our island. You may be almost 6,000 miles away but you will always be a part of Tristan da Cunha. Thank you.
