St Mary's School Sponsored Swim for Children in Need in February 2020

St Mary’s School Sponsored Swim

Report and Photos from Clare Ryan

Thursday 13th February 2020 was the day for St Mary’s School children to undertake their sponsored swim for Children in Need. The previous week has seen children collecting sponsorship pledges from family and friends. The weather on Thursday was cloudy but calm and the pool water was on the cool side!

Playgroup, Class 1 and Class 2 swimmers were first in the pool and focused on water confidence and moving through the water on foot, with a float or by swimming! Children took it in turns to pick up weighted toys from the bottom of the shallow end. Some Class 1 and 2 swimmers were even able to dive to the bottom of the deep end to collect weighted toys! All children tried their hardest and were able to show huge improvements in water confidence.

After lunch, it was the turn of Classes 3-5. A superb effort by students from the secondary phase saw them notch up a combined total of 500 lengths of the 20m pool. Spurred on by the knowledge of Miss Kaitlyn's achievement in a previous challenge every participant completed at least 600m. Five outstanding swimmers reached, or even surpassed, 1km.

Once children have collected their sponsorship money, we’ll place an update with the total raised for Children in Need
