I am delighted to be able to welcome Jonathan Barcio, a Police Constable with the Royal Gibraltar Police Force to Tristan da Cunha.

The Island has not welcomed an expat Police Officer for many years. While secondments by different Police Forces are a regular occurrence across Overseas Territories (OT’s); owing to our remoteness (and thankfully extremely low levels of crime) they are few and far between for this isle. However Tristan cannot operate in isolation and it always good to welcome anyone who is keen to visit and work with the community.

The idea of seconding a Police Officer was raised in 2014 during previous UK Representative visits to OT conferences, and I am pleased to say that Gibraltar very kindly came to the fore and offered support. Their willingness to provide an Officer is greatly appreciated. Jonathan will be working with Inspector Conrad Glass, learning and understanding Tristanian Policing.

It is important that Overseas Territories can work in unison, and I hope our burgeoning working relationship with Gibraltar can continue in the future. I know the whole Island will be looking forward to meeting Jonathan, and explaining the Tristan way of life.

While it may be quieter than Gibraltar, I am sure Jonathan will enjoy his three months living and working with the community.
