Tristan gets a prime seat at Platinum Jubilee celebrations

The organisers of HM the Queen's Platinum Jubilee extended a generous welcome to Tristan da Cunha during four days of celebrations in London from the 2nd to 5th June 2022.

Tristan's Chief Islander, James Glass, at the Pageant

We made special arrangements for Chief Islander James Glass, on a rare visit to the UK, to be included in the spectacular climax to the four-day event. The Platinum Jubilee Pageant saw a cavalcade of military parades, carnival processions, and musical performances on three stages in front of Buckingham Palace. James was seated directly in front of the Royal Box, near Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate, and other members of Her Majesty's close family.

The Pageant was preceded by an exclusive reception at Marlborough House, headquarters for the Commonwealth, where James met fellow guests including government ministers and celebrities.

The UK celebrations took place at the same time as Jubilee events on Tristan were highlighted worldwide via TV and social-media reports. It was a true honour for a remote community to be included in the key London events.
