On Tuesday 21st January the UK Overseas Territories held two meetings in the Houses of Parliament: one with the new Speaker of the House of Commons, and the other to brief Parliamentarians on our key current issues.

The Speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, is a long-standing supporter of the Territories. He responded to my Tristan briefing, strongly backing the Island Council's role in deciding how Tristan waters should be protected, promising to keep our interests in mind as Brexit takes shape - and saying he'd love to visit Tristan da Cunha!

A second session introduced some newly-elected MPs to the OTs, and shared priority issues with MPs and peers. I focused on the 'trade and aid' aspects of Brexit, and the importance of ensuring Blue Belt protection is properly resourced, is locally-driven and works in harmony with sustainable fisheries.
