2019/2020 Fishing Season Gets Underway

Spectacular Start to Tristan inshore fishing season

After the July storm caused damage to the Tristan fishing factory it was feared that the start of the Tristan fishing season may be postponed for several months. In fact, Ovenstone contractors arrived aboard the MFV Edinburgh relief voyage on 17th August and soon sorted out the damage so that the factory was fully functioning and ready to process Tristan Lobster when the first suitable fishing day was declared on Monday 26th August 2019. Weather continued to be good, and fishing continued for a total of six days until Saturday 31st August. This run of six consecutive fishing days is a rare occurrence on Tristan da Cunha, and especially welcome after the July storm caused such havoc in damaging many buildings.

Administrator Sean Burns took the following photographs of fishing boats departing Calshot Harbour on Monday 26th August.
