The Plancius arrived Friday 8th April and anchored along side the Edinburgh that was offloading her final cargo. It was a sunny, calm day with a slight winter chill. The harbour was unusually busy with passengers and cargo arriving at the same time. Tours of the settlement and volcano started from the harbour with the Thatched House museum open for those that wished to visit. Other visitors spent time at the Tourism Centre gift shop, Post Office, Cafe da Cunha and exploring the settlement and Potato Patches. The golf match took place from 2pm until departure time. There was a guided trip by bus to the Potato Patches at 2.30 pmand then a tour of the Traditional Thatched House Museum. The last boat was at 5pm taking local guides for the outer island tours. Unfortunately sea conditions prevented landing on Saturday, but passengers were able to land on Nightingale Island on Sunday 10th April, dropping the guides back later in the day before the ship set sail for St Helena. |
