Poor weather on 3rd January postpones arrival of RMS St Helena

RMS St Helena 2018 Trip Update

Report from Dawn Repetto

The arrival of the RMS St Helena at Tristan has been put back to Thursday 4th January 2018 as the island experiences rain and heavy sea conditions on Wednesday 3rd January, when the RMS was due to arrive at 08.00. The ship is scheduled to leave Fristan on Friday 5th January and therefore the visit is now shortened.

Apart from the HE Governor Lisa Phillips, and other passengers who will travel onwards to St Helena, the RMS is transporting islanders Rachel Green (returning home for the first time since December 2012 after studying in South Africa), and the family of Desmond, Donna, Calvin and Hannah Green.

Sarah Cash's photo shows the RMS St Helena off Tristan in 2013.
Sarah and her husband Barry are also aboard the 2018 voyage.

The 2016 trip was shortened to only a few hours ashore and the island community, as well as all those aboard the RMS St Helena will be hoping the final 2018 visit will commence on Thursday 4th January and at least allow one night ashore and two days of land-based activities. It will be interesting to see how the ship looks as it anchors off Tristan for then last time - here's hoping for a scene like the one above.
