Arrival of SVS Grenville

Report from Shirley Squibb and Cynthia Green

The Pristine Seas National Geographic Expedition ship SVS Grenville arrived at Tristan da Cunha early in the evening of Sunday 15th January 2017.

On Sunday evening thirteen passengers came ashore. They were six contractors who will work on further refurbishment of Calshot Harbour and seven islanders: Chief Islander Ian Lavarello, Dilys Green, Andrew Green, Tanya Green, Emma, Ryan and Tyler Swain.

Ovenstones vessels only carry 12 passengers and so the Tristan Government is immensely grateful to organisers of the National Geogrpahic Expedition to have chartered a ship with enough capacity to enable seven islanders and six contractors to travel out to the island at a busy time.

Twenty team members stayed on board overnight and were able to land on Monday morning to tour the Settlement before returning to the ship which departed an noon to get the expedition's work underway.
