Tristan's schoolchildren raised £1,035 for 'Children in Need' from sponsored activities and a cake sale.

Fundraising for 'BBC Children in Need' 2016

Photo report from Head Teacher Anne Green

The children raised an amazing £1,035 this year for 'BBC Children in Need' by doing a sponsored walk to the Patches on the 30th November, swimming in the pool, and a cake sale at the school on the 7th December 2016. Last year we raised £300 for the cake sale. This year we have tripled that.

It is a long way to the Patches for little legs... ...but adult help was on hand if needs be. 5-year old Lucas Swain hitching a ride, was the youngest child on the walk.

The idea was that we would do something different to last year and children could choose which event they wanted to do. In the end some of them did all three! Members of the community also donated money and of course cakes. We always laugh at the fact that people donate cakes, biscuits etc and then come and buy them as well. We couldn't have raised that amount of money without the support of the community, they have been fantastic.

Tristan children abroad also join in

Ryan Swain, with little brother Tyler, was in Cape Town and April Swain was in Montevideo, Uruguay, at the time but they still did something, and family here supported them. April walked round the city park and Ryan swam in the pool at Tristan House. Even Tyler was on his float!

Alas, we do not have any pictures of the swimming event on Tristan, but the photograph left from Emma Swain shows Ryan Swain helping to raise funds in the pool at Tristan House, Cape Town on the 2nd December.

Children here are so lucky in that they have never known poverty and I believe it is good for them to realise that not every child is so fortunate. So it is great that they can do their part to help children less fortunate than themselves.

School broke up on Friday 16th December.
