The Residency

The Residency is the Tristan home of the Administrator. This 2005 photograph, taken by Janice Hentley shows the Administrator's flag typically extended by the westerly wind. The skyline behind the Residency is dominated by the Goat Ridge.

Re-Roofing

The Residency was one of the last Tristan buildings to be re-roofed in the programme following the 2001 Hurricane. Here is the job half way completed.

David Morley becomes Tristan's 20th Administrator

Introducing Administrator David Morley

David Morley arrived aboard the SA Agulhas on 12th September 2007 to become the 20th resident Tristan da Cunha Administrator.

David celebrated his 53rd birthday on Tristan shortly after arrival.  Like his predecessor David is a career diplomat.  He's spent the last few years in London working on counter proliferation policy and then consular strategy issues. In connection with the latter job David spent time in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina so he's no stranger to rough weather.

David's last overseas posting was to Brussels from 1999-2001, where he was a member of the UK Delegation to NATO.  Before that he was British Deputy High Commissioner in Swaziland and has had a variety of other postings during his time in the Diplomatic Service. Neither David nor his wife Jacki are new to the South Atlantic having served a tour on the Falklands shortly after getting married in 1978.

David and Jackie Morley
Jackie is also a member of the Diplomatic Service and will be took unpaid leave to accompany David on his posting to Tristan.
