Earthquake Report - 1st November 2016

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge at a depth of 16.6 km on 1st November. The Epicentre was 35.171°S 15.170°W, some 330km north-west of Tristan da Cunha and not associated with the Tristan da Cunha volcanic hot-spot. Nevertheless the earthquake was reported being in the Tristan da Cunha Region and so we note it here to re-assure friends of the island that the tremor has no significance on Tristan and is instead a common event associated with sea-floor spreading along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
